The prevalence of cestodes in farm dogs in mid-Wales

, : The prevalence of cestodes in farm dogs in mid-Wales. Veterinary Parasitology, 71: 95-101

Farm dogs (508) in mid-Wales were treated with arecoline acetarsol during 1975. Cestodes recovered from their feces were identified as Echinococcus granulosus, Taenia hydatigena, T. multiceps, T. ovis, T. pisiformis, T. serialis and Dipylidium caninum. Many dogs were treated on 3 different occasions during the 12 mo., and changes in the prevalence over this period were shown. The greatest rise in prevalence rate from Jan. to May was seen for E. granulosus while T. hydatigena was most prevalent in Jan. All other species, except T. serialis, were found in low numbers throughout the year.
