In studies with 572 winter and spring wheat grain samples harvested in 1975-7, correlations of 90-99% for CP contents and m.c. and of 85-96% for grain hardness were found between values obtained by normal laboratory methods and by the infrared reflectance method. The latter enabled CP contents, m.c. and grain hardness to be measured very accurately in 45-60 s.
