Abstract
Milk production characteristics of Holstein-Friesian cattle in USA and Canada are briefly reviewed, and performance in the USSR of stock imported from those countries is outlined. 1st lactation milk yields of imported heifers on 5 farms ranged from 5316 to 5932 kg, and the fat contents ranged from 2.81 to 3.61%. The udder index of 329 heifers on 1 farm was 42.5% and that of 34 heifers on another farm was 42.2%.
