Abstract
The use of herbicides for vegetation management is reviewed, starting with a definition of what constitutes a weed in amenity grassland. The aims and methods of weed control in sports turf and other non-agricultural grassland, including country parks and nature reserves, and the role of herbicides in management of these areas are discussed. Possible applications of techniques developed for agricultural grasslands (slot-seeding and the use of low vol. herbicide sprays to adjust the balance of species in a sward) are considered.
