Yield of Para grass (Brachiaria mutica) as influenced by source, rate and frequency of application of fertilizer nitrogen

In Aug. 1971-Feb. 1975, Para grass was given 100 or 200 kg N/ha yr as (a) ammonium sulphate, (b) ammonium nitrate or (c) urea in a single initial application or 3 equal split applications at c. 15-wk intervals in the 1st yr, or in 4 or 8 split applications in the 2nd and 3rd yr. On av., DM yields increased by 25, 29 and 36 kg/kg applied N as (c), (a) and (b), resp. Yield response to frequency of N application was small and there was little residual effect beyond 6 wk after application.
