'Sieving' method to detect the presence of adults of the potato whiteworm, Premnotrypes vorax in the soil

The detection of adults of the curculionid Premnotrypes vorax (Hust.) in the soil of potato fields (where the larvae cause severe damage by tunnelling in the tubers) is made difficult because the adults closely resemble lumps of soil. A procedure was developed in Colombia to overcome this problem and enable adult populations to be surveyed.
