In Part 1, soils at 23 sites representing 8 W. Montana mountain and foothill range habitats were characterized and classified and the corresponding vegetation types along a moisture gradient ranging from a Stipa comata/Bouteloua gracilis community (dry conditions) to a Festuca idahoensis/Agropyron caninum community (wet conditions) were recorded. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to model above-ground DM productivity.
