1. Rural transformation: a field for comparative study

The process of rural transformation: Eastern Europe, Latin America and Australia: 3-18

The study of rural transformation is the examination of the changes in all aspects of rural life as the processes of modernization affect the whole population. These include the development of better production techniques, the decreasing importance of agricultural labour in food production, the new attitudes among traditionally rural populations, the changes in social regulations, the location of new rural centres, and the process of rural/small-town industrialization.
