137Cs in milk and the discrimination capacity of the cow against caesium

137Cs in milk and the discrimination capacity of the cow against caesium

Tejipar 30(1): 20-22

Milk and feed samples were taken monthly from 2 large dairy farms in the Gyor-Sopron district of Hungary from 1972 to 1979. Activity of 137Cs averaged 4660 mBq/g K in milk (1 pCi = 37 mBq), ranging from 2590 in 1975 to 6480 in 1978, and 5600 mBq/g K in feed, ranging from 3590 in 1979 to 8060 in 1973. The discrimination factor i.e. the 137Cs:K ratio in milk divided by the 137Cs:K ratio in feed, averaged 0.90 plus or minus 0.40 and ranged from 0.53 in 1973 to 1.59 in 1977.
