1979 Performance of field crop varieties

The 1980 recommended of maize, cotton, oats, wheat, barley, rye, lucerne, red clover, soyabeans, grain sorghum and tobacco are listed with their main characteristics. In the 1979 full-season state maize hybrid trials the leading hybrids in grain yield were Pioneer Brand X5505, DeKalb XL394 and Pioneer Brand 3147. The leading early-maturing hybrids were Zimmerman Z-24Y, McCurdy 84aa and O's Gold SX3344. All 151 hybrids were rated for virus tolerance.
