2 sesquiterpenoid naphthols were isolated from green and field-dried cotton bracts. These naphthols rapidly autoxidized on Si gel to lacinilene C and lacinilene C 7-methyl ether, resp. The latter compound was implicated as a causative of byssinosis. Lacinilene C and its methyl ether derivative isolated from field-dried cotton leaves and bracts were optically active, indicating that the lacinilenes were produced enzymatically from the naphthols.
