The number of ewes performance-recorded in Sweden increased from 4604 in 1956, when recording began, to 69 676 in 1980, and the number of recorded ewes, expressed as a percentage of the total population, increased from 9 in 1956 to 46 in 1980. Over the period, there was an increase in the number of lambs born per Swedish Landrace (SL) ewe lambing from 1.85 to 2.25, and the 120-day lamb weight per ewe increased by 25.7 kg for SL ewes and by 13.6 kg for fur-type ewes.
