7. Income distribution and levels of living in Java, 1963 and beyond

7. Income distribution and levels of living in Java, 1963 and beyond

Agricultural and rural development in Indonesia: 115-124

The analysis examines currently available data on income distribution in Java during the 1960s and 1970s, in order to discern trends and changes in relative and absolute levels of welfare in rural and urban areas. A number of conclusions are drawn from the data. Thus, it appears that urban elites have increased their share of the national income, whereas the income shares of rural elites have remained relatively constant.
