7. Nutrition and health care: nontraditional alternatives

Making the most of the least Alternative ways to development: 95-115

For most inhabitants of rural areas and small towns in the developing countries, health care is sometimes non-existent. The paper argues that even massive expansion of conventional medical personnel would not rapidly alter the situation. However, a community-health programme staffed, in part, by mid-level medical personnel and backed by community-oriented educational programmes could begin to improve the situation. An investigation is made of nomadic communities throughout the world.
