A 37XO chromsome complement in a kitten

A 37XO chromsome complement in a kitten

Journal of Small Animal Practice 21(11): 627-631

In 2 kittens from the same litter, affected with spina bifida and meningocoele, the phenotypic male was found to have a normal 38,XY chromosome complement, whilst the phenotypic female had a 37,XO chromosome complement. It was concluded that the spina bifida condition was due to the Manx ancestry and not to the 37,XO karyotype. The possible effect of the XO complement in cats is discussed.
