A brief decrease in dopamine results in a surge of prolactin secretion in monkeys

A brief decrease in dopamine results in a surge of prolactin secretion in monkeys

Federation Proceedings 40(3, I): 415

Dopamine (DA), infused at 0.1 mu g kg-1 min-1 into hypophyseal stalk-transected, oestrogen-treated rhesus monkeys caused mean serum prolactin (PRL) concn. to decrease from 47.6 plus or minus 4.8 to 9.7 plus or minus 2.7 ng/ml. Interruptions in DA infusion of 2.5, 5.0 or 7.5 min caused PRL concn. to increase at 10 min to 27.5 plus or minus 8.3, 52.9 plus or minus 3.6 or 58.9 plus or minus 8.1 ng/ml, resp.
