A chemical light trap for mosquitoes and other biting insects

Plastic tubes containing 2 solutions that when mixed produced a greenish light (known as 'lightsticks') were used in battery-operated suction traps to attract insects. In Ghana, 10 unfed and 385 blood-fed adults of Anopheles nili (Theo.), 136 of the complex of A. gambiae Giles and 129 mosquitoes of 7 other species were caught in the traps in 14 trap-nights, and 119 mosquitoes belonging to 15 species were caught in 23 trap-nights outdoors.
