A collective report of the important diseases and enemies of the honey bee. I. The bee mite, Varroa jacobsoni

A collective report of the important diseases and enemies of the honey bee. I. The bee mite, Varroa jacobsoni

NTU Phytopathologist and Entomologist (7): 1-14

The mite Varroa jacobsoni Oudm., which attacks Apis mellifera L., has been spreading rapidly throughout South-East Asia, East Europe and South America. At Pei-Puu, Taiwan, in about 1970, the mite was found in colonies of A. mellifera L. that were brought from Japan in 1968. During 1973-78, the mite became widespread in Taiwan and resulted in heavy economic losses due to high bee mortality.
