A comparative evaluation of some storage bins for rural grain storage

Journal of the Indian Academy of Wood Science 9(1): 1-16

A comparative evaluation was made of grain storage bins of capacity 0.5-3 t, made from: (a) preservative-treated plywood; (b) ferrocement; and (c) high mol. wt., high density polyethylene. Both (a) and (b) had low thermal conductivity, were gas-tight, were resistant to attack by rodents, termites and other insects, and were suitable for outdoor or indoor purposes; (a) were easier to transport and erect and more economical than (b).
