A comparative study for diagnosing and calculating gypsum requirement in the Nile alkali alluvial soils of Egypt

The gypsum requirements of 43 alkaline alluvial soils in the Nile Delta and Nile Valley determined by three empirical methods (structure factor, exchangeable sodium and Schoonover methods) were closely correlated with the gypsum requirements obtained using the soluble sodium percentage, but were not related to those obtained from soluble CO3 + HCO3 values in a 1:20 soil:water extract.
