A comparative study of management factors likely to influence rhizome production by Agropyron repens and Agrostis gigantea in perennial ryegrass swards

A comparative study of management factors likely to influence rhizome production by Agropyron repens and Agrostis gigantea in perennial ryegrass swards

Proceedings 1980 British Crop Protection Conference Weeds: 469-475

Data are presented comparing the growth of Agropyron repens and Agrostis gigantea in association with perennial ryegrass. In an indigenous field infestation where defoliation intervals of between 2 and 8 wks were compared, rhizome levels were contained by defoliation at less than 4-wk intervals. A 2- or 4-wk interval was recorded as being preferable to 8 wks in a subsequent experiment.
