A comparative study on the use of intramuscular chloroquine and quinine (as Quinimax) in the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in adults

East African Medical Journal 56(4): 158-162

In Rwanda, 90 patients with uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria were given 300 mg chloroquine base intramuscularly for 3 days; 97 similar patients received 8 ml Quinimax (quinine) intramuscularly for 3 days. Clinical improvement was seen in 86 patients given chloroquine and in 85 given Quinimax; parasitological cure was obtained in 89 and 79, respectively.
