A comparison of alkaloid content in some Phragmipedium species

American Orchid Society Bulletin 50(11): 1346-1352

The alkaloid contents of fresh leaves of American Phragmipedium species belonging to the sections Phragmipedium, Lorifolia, Himantopetalum and Platypetalum were isolated using thin layer chromatography. Leaves of spp. in the Platypetalum section, particularly some P. sargentianum clones, had higher alkaloid contents than leaves of spp. in other sections.
