A comparison of fertility in the brown trout and the rainbow trout

Data on 950 500 and 652 500 eggs from 1073 and 526 female brown trout (Salmo trutta fario), aged 3 and 4 yr resp., and on 2 880 000 and 1 690 000 eggs from 1737 and 790 rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) of these ages were analysed. In the 4 groups of females resp., the percentage of fertilised ova was 83.64, 85.82, 89.10 and 82.25; the differences between the 2 types of trout and between the age groups were significant.
