A comparison of five housing systems for feedlot cattle

Production data from 5 beef housing systems (slatted floor cold confinement, manure scrape barn, conventional system, outside area with mound, slatted floor and warm confinement) with different animal densities are presented for a 3 yr period. Average daily gains were highest for cattle housed at 2.32 m2 or 1.58 m2/head in the warm slatted unit. Daily feed intake was greatest in the manure scrape, cold and warm slatted units.
