A note on the occurrence of the hymenostome ciliate Tetrahymena in chironomid larvae (Diptera: Chironomidae) from the Laurentian Great Lakes

A note on the occurrence of the hymenostome ciliate Tetrahymena in chironomid larvae (Diptera: Chironomidae) from the Laurentian Great Lakes

Transactions of the American Microscopical Society 100(1): 89-93

Ciliated protozoa were found in the haemocoelic cavity of some chironomid larvae from the benthos of Lakes Ontario, Superior and Memphremagog. T. chironomi occurred commonly in Chironomus plumosus. Unidentified Tetrahymena spp. were found, with lower frequency, in C. anthracinus, C. salinarius, Cladiotanytarsus sp., Cryptochironomus scimitarus, Micropsectra sp., Phaenopsectra jucundus, Procladius sp. and Tanytarsus sp.
