A laboratory study was carried out in India to determine the effects of the juvenile hormone analogue hydroprene (Altozar) on sixth-instar larvae of Spodoptera litura (F.), by placing them on strips of filter paper soaked in acetone solution containing 0.25, 0.50 or 1.00 mg hydroprene. All the treated larvae developed red pigmentation on the cuticle within 24 h instead of the normal black pigmentation.
