Action of vitamin D and its analogues on calcium transport in vitro in the small intestine of rachitic chickens

A non-everted small intestinal sac from a rachitic chicken was incubated. Plasma from blood of chickens adequate in vitamin D stimulated calcium transport across the wall of the intestinal sac. Addition of cholecalciferol (D-3) or its analogues (25-hydroxy D-3, 1-hydroxy D-3 and ergocalciferol) into blood plasma of rachitic chickens also stimulated Ca transport.
