Activities of photosynthetic enzymes and pigment content of the leaves of maize seedlings at cool temperatures as influenced by phytohormone treatment

Activities of photosynthetic enzymes and pigment content of the leaves of maize seedlings at cool temperatures as influenced by phytohormone treatment

Angewandte Botanik 55(5/6): 409-417

Seedlings of 3 maize lines differing in their reaction to cool temp. were grown at day/night temp. of 24/22 or 14/12 deg C. Plants grown at 14/12 deg were treated with (a) cytokinins (kinetin + BA), (b) ABA, (c) cytokinin + ABA, (d) GA3 or (e) linolenic acid. Photosynthetic enzyme activity and pigment content were reduced by (d) and slightly increased by (e). Treatments (a), (b) and (c) did not compensate for the effects of low temp.
