The production of nutritious local plants such as the winged bean (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus), amaranth (Amaranthus spp.) and tepary bean (Phaseolus acutifolius) and of animals such as the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and banteng (Bos sondaicus) in rural areas of underdeveloped countries is discussed.
