CCA-treated eucalypt transmission poles that had been in service for 9-19 yr were charred with a liquid propane gas/air flame until the wood glowed, over an area extending 200 mm above and 200 mm below the ground line. Poles were then treated with high temp. creosote or Cu naphthenate.
