Application of an ELISA technique to the serodiagnosis of toxoplasmosis in sheep: significance for sahelian small ruminants

Application of an ELISA technique to the serodiagnosis of toxoplasmosis in sheep: significance for sahelian small ruminants

Revue d' Elevage et de Medecine Veterinaire des Pays Tropicaux 35(1): 27-33

A microplate ELISA for the detection of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in sheep is described. The method uses peroxidase-labelled immunoglobulins with purified 5-aminosalicylic acid as substrate. The colouration produced is stable and may be read directly in the microtitre plate either visually or with a Vernon spectrophotometer. Comparative tests on 50 sera showed an 86% agreement between the ELISA and IFAT.
