Breeding for nematode and virus resistance in potato via anther culture

Using anther culture it was demonstrated that doubled monohaploid calluses and plants can be regenerated which possess resistance to Globodera pallida and to X, Y and leaf roll viruses in the homozygous condition. Amongst 20 resistant dihaploid calluses tested for whole plant regeneration, only H78.2020/26 with resistance to G. pallida and H259 with field resistance to leaf roll virus and virus Y developed roots and shoots.
