By-passed areas, regional inequalities and development policies in selected Southeast Asian Countries

Rapid economic growth has occurred in the middle-income nations of Southeast Asia for the past two decades. However, the incidence of growth has been uneven. The national capitals and centrally located agricultural regions often have per caput real incomes several times as great as those of remote agricultural regions. In the latter by-passed areas, the incidence of poverty may be particularly acute.
