Cellulose digestion by turkeys fed high or low fiber diets

Cellulose digestion by turkeys fed high or low fiber diets

Poultry Science 59(7): 1602

Wrolstad Medium-White hens were fed on a high-(16.13%; HF) or low-(2.80%; LF) fibre diet from 7 to 17 weeks of age. Tests were made during the next 15 weeks. ellulose, used as a substrate to test for cellulolysis, was introduced into the gizzard via a polyethylene tube passed by mouth or directly into the right caecum via a fistula prepared in the distal tip of this caecum. Four turkeys fed on HF diet, 4 fed on LF diet, and 2 HF-fed caecectomized turkeys were used.
