In trials at Knezha in 1975-76 on chernozem soil, atrazine at 8-24 kg/ha was applied with and without 120 kg P2O5, 90 kg K2O, 0 and 150 kg N/ha in a maize monoculture. Atrazine at 16-24 kg/ha inhibited ammonifying non-spore forming bacteria at the 5-leaf stage of maize but promoted their growth at the booting stage.
