Chemical composition, digestibility and nutritive value of turnips (Brassica campestris, var. rapa)

Chemical composition, digestibility and nutritive value of turnips (Brassica campestris, var. rapa)

Revue de l' Agriculture 33(5): 1003-1020

The chemical composition, in vivo digestibility and net energy value of turnips Meetjeslander RvP was studied in 1975, 1977 and 1978. The DM content was low (7-10%); CP content was variable but averaged 21.5%. Ether extract, CF, NFE, sugar, neutral detergent fibre and soluble ash contents averaged 2.5, 13.1, 48, 18.2, 20.2 and 15%, resp., of the DM. Nitrate, Ca, P and K contents averaged 2.9, 1.4, 0.6 and 2.9%, resp., of the DM.
