Contribution to the study of the soil fauna in Greek olive groves (Col., Caraboidea and Staphylinoidea; Hym., Formicidae)

Contribution to the study of the soil fauna in Greek olive groves (Col., Caraboidea and Staphylinoidea; Hym., Formicidae)

Biologia Gallo Hellenica 9: 287-291

In the course of a study to evaluate the numbers of Dacus oleae (Gmel.) overwintering in the soil in olive groves in Greece, a survey was made of the soil fauna in the groves, including the species sheltering beneath stones. The groups predominating among this fauna were staphylinids, carabids and ants; they are briefly discussed. Among the staphylinids present, Astrapaeus ulmi (Rossi) and Quedius oblitteratus Erichs. (coxalis Kratz) are known to be capable of destroying pupae of D. oleae.
