Control of aphids in sugar-beet plantings with respect to the sparing of natural enemies

Natural enemies are unable to control aphids on the leaves of sugar-beet in the German Federal Republic without some assistance from insecticides. However, these should be selectively applied so as to spare the natural enemies so far as possible, or applied to parts of an area only. Tests on aphid control without damage to natural enemies have been carried out since 1976 in 3 areas near Mainz. Insecticides were applied at normal concentrations.
