Control of the natural milieu and herds by Touareg herders in the Sahel

Control of the natural milieu and herds by Touareg herders in the Sahel

Pastoral Production and Society: 67-74

Touareg pastoralists developed a rational exploitation of their natural setting by distinguishing stable resources and variable resources. Stable resources are arboreal pastures, permanent surface waters (rivers, lakes, springs) or deep wells. Variable resources consist of herbaceous pastures composed of annual species and surface waters (ponds or draining wells) that reflect rainfall conditions.
