Control of volunteer potatoes, Solanum tuberosum L., in beet

Control of volunteer potatoes, Solanum tuberosum L., in beet

Himme, M van; Stryckers, J; Bulcke, R : Review of results obtained in the cropping year 1980-1981 by the Centrum voor Onkruidonderzoek: Bespreking van de resultaten bereikt door het Centrum voor Onkruidonderzoek tijdens het teeltjaar 1980-1981: 78-83

Various chemical weed control systems commonly used in sugar-beet were tested for their effect on volunteer potatoes. None gave satisfactory control but ethofumesate at 1 or 1.5 kg/ha, incorporated before sowing the beet, suppressed emergence of tubers in the upper soil horizon, provided soil moisture was adequate; the tubers were not killed, however.
