Controlling browntop panicum in sugarcane

Controlling browntop panicum in sugarcane

Proceedings American Society of Sugar Cane Technology (Volume 7): 113-115

Browntop panicum (Panicum fasciculatum) became a problem in Louisiana sugarcane for the first time about 1971 because it was not controlled by the widely used herbicide terbacil. Chlorfenac at 1.8 lb/acre applied on a 30-inch band over sugar-cane in spring and broadcast at lay-by, with routine cultivation, controlled browntop panicum almost perfectly for the entire growing season.
