Conversion of [2-14C] mevalonate into cholesterol, lanosterol and squalene in copper-deficient rats

Conversion of [2-14C] mevalonate into cholesterol, lanosterol and squalene in copper-deficient rats

Journal of Nutrition 110(5): 859-867

The effect was studied of copper deficiency on the conversion of mevalonate into cholesterol in rats. Thirty weanling, male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into two dietary treatments. The copper-deficient and adequate diets contained Cu 2 and 18 mg/kg. Feed and water were provided freely. After 8 weeks the rats were starved overnight and then given evalonate 0.5 mu Ci/100 g bodyweight by the femoral vein. Five rats from each treatment were killed after 40, 80 and 120 min.
