Correlation of fatty acid and pheromone component structures in sex pheromone glands of ten lepidopteran species

Fatty acid analyses of ovipositor tips of 10 lepidopterous species showed that in each species unusual fatty acids were present with the same carbon chain lengths and positions of unsaturation as the sex pheromone components. The unusual fatty acids in the various species included DELTA 9 and DELTA 11-14-carbon acids, and DELTA 11-16-carbon acid.
