Analysis of selected data from a diallel of nine varieties which ranged from susceptible to resistant revealed the action of two pairs of genes giving F2 segregation ratios of 13 susceptible : 3 resistant. By the use of additional data from susceptible X tolerant crosses, quantitative control was shown to exist also, dependent on polygenes, with additive effects outweighing those of dominance.
