A trial assessed the application of 70 kg N/ha as a whole or split applications given at sowing, 20 or 30 days after seedling emergence and at anthesis to direct-sown rice IR36 at Pangasinan. Yields were max. when 40-60% of the N was applied at sowing and the remaining N applied at 30 days after emergence. In another trial at Iloilo, 60, 90, 120 or 150 kg N/ha was applied to direct-sown rice IR36 sown at rates of 60, 90, 120, 150 or 180 kg seed/ha.
