Seedlings of strains of a number of Aegilops species were inoculated with three biotypes of P. recondita (B22, B21 and B9), corresponding to physiological races 211, 12 and 77 respectively, with one biotype of P. graminis (N21), corresponding to physiological race 11, and with a population of E. graminis virulent to the gene Pm4. The most resistant species to P. recondita were Ae. speltoides and Ae. caudata, in which some strains were also resistant to P. graminis and E. graminis; Ae. squarrosa, Ae. ventricosa, Ae. variabilis, Ae. ovata, Ae. triristata and Ae. triuncialis showed variable reactions.
