Distribution of determinants for symptom production and host range on the three RNA components of cucumber mosaic virus

Distribution of determinants for symptom production and host range on the three RNA components of cucumber mosaic virus

Journal of General Virology 61(2): 197-205

Eighteen pseudorecombinants were constructed in vitro by exchanging the 3 genomic RNA segments between pairs of 3 strs. of CMV. Inoculation of the CMV strs. and the pseudorecombinants to 10 selected host plant spp. revealed that infection and symptom expression in a plant can be a complex interaction of the genetic material of the virus with that of the host genome.
