Effect of adrenocorticotropin on milk and plasma cortisol and prolactin concentrations

Effect of adrenocorticotropin on milk and plasma cortisol and prolactin concentrations

Journal of Dairy Science 64(9): 1794-1803

12 lactating Holstein-Friesian cows, divided randomly into 4 groups, were treated as follows: group IV1 received 1 intravenous injection of 40 IU ACTH, group IV4 the same dosage 4X at 2-h intervals, group IM, 240 IU ACTH intramuscularly, and controls were injected with saline. Cortisol content of plasma was increased following ACTH injection, while milk cortisol increased in groups IV4 and IM only.
