Effect of alcohol intake and smoking on high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in plasma in active and sedentary subjects

Mean high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in plasma of 40 active and 43 sedentary students and office workers, all of normal weight, with normal blood lipids and of mean age 37 and 39 years, respectively, was 57.7 and 48.1 mg/100 ml. HDL cholesterol was related negatively with smoking and positively with physical activity.
